Our communities are becoming increasingly aware that birding is good business and are eager to welcome birders to their towns. Visitors need only ask around and they’ll find helpful locals eager to share tips about birding, sites to see, places to eat, and the secret spots tucked away that only they know about. This trail is highway-based, but there are also side roads, dirt roads, and thousands of miles of foot trails.
Mono Basin Birds - The Mono Lake Basin is home to millions of birds representing over 300 species. Most are migratory, and over 100 species nest here as well. The Mono Basin watershed has a variety of habitats, and each supports its own collection of bird species—as well as birds commonly seen throughout the Basin. 6th Annual Bird Chautauqua June 15-17, 2007
Owens Lake Birds - Owens Lake is a Nationally Significant Important Bird Area (IBA) as designated by the National Audubon Society. The lake was so designated due to the thousands of shorebirds that migrate through each fall and spring between the Arctic and Central and South America, and also because of the large numbers of snowy plovers that nest there. In addition several thousand snow geese and ducks winter at the lake. Wetlands and habitats threatened, protected by The Owens Valley Committee which promotes citizen involvement in water and land management.
Where do you want to go birding today? - This website contains information on birding in 203 countries, 10 provinces and 3 territories of Canada, and all 50 US states plus Washington, D.C. 364 photographers and organizations have provided permission to showcase their work on this site.
